Part 1. Purpose Statement:
This procedure provides clear, accessible information to students regarding admissions requirements to the college as well as the appropriate level of academic preparation necessary for success in specific programs of study.

Part 3. Definitions:
Enrollment in courses generally requires:
- Application form with applicable transcripts
- Letter of acceptance
- Completion of course placement review; and
- Completion of advising requirement in order to register for classes.
Part 4: Procedures:
Subpart A. General Enrollment Process includes the following steps:
- Complete the Minnesota State online application form or a É«ÖÐÉ« paper application.
- Receive a letter from the SCC Office of Admissions indicating that the student has been admitted to the College.
- Submit applicable official high school, GED and official post-secondary transcripts. A person who does not have a high school diploma or its equivalent may be admitted at the discretion of the college according to locally determined admissions requirements.
- Complete course placement process if needed. This must be completed by students requesting Ability to Benefit status.
- Complete orientation and registration process.
Subpart B. Health Science:
Selective Health Science programs have a separate process for admissions to their individual programs through established selective admissions criteria.
Subpart C. Immunizations:
Documentation of Immunization as per Minnesota State Statute (M.S.135A.14) must be received no later than 45 class days after the semester begins. Students are allowed to register for their initial term without complete immunization information on file. A registration hold will limit future registration to one course if the immunization form is not received.
Subpart D. Appeals:
Students denied admission or enrollment may appeal. Appeals of denial of admission or enrollment based on financial holds will not be accepted.
Subpart E. International Student Provisions:
A person enrolling at the college as an international student must submit the following to the Admissions Office:
- Completed International Student Admission Application
- Proof of academic achievement as documented by official high school or college transcripts (English or English translation)
- A notarized, current, original bank statement showing the required dollar amount in U.S. currency for adequate financial support to cover all educational and living expenses to fund one academic year (tuition and fees, books, housing, food, transportation, medical insurance, and other expenses).
- If using a financial sponsor, the financial sponsor must submit an Affidavit of Support (I-134) and a notarized, current, original bank statement in U.S. currency.
- The bank statement must be in English, certified by a bank official, and not less than two (2) months old at the time of application.
- Proof of English proficiency based on one of the following tests:
- TOEFL – minimum score of 500 on the Paper-Based Test (PBT) or 61 on the internet-Based Test (iBT)
- Michigan Test – minimum score of 80
- ELS – Academic level 109 completed
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – minimum score of 5.5
- Duolingo English Test (DET) – minimum score of 95
- Proof of visa status if currently residing in U.S, or copy of Form I-20 for F-1 visa holders
- Purchase mandatory college-sponsored medical insurance plan
Subpart F. Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEO):

Subpart G. Visiting Students:
- Students at other Minnesota State institutions can enroll in SCC through e-Services.
- Students at other non-Minnesota State institutions can submit a visiting student/non-degree seeking application.
- Visiting students shall satisfy course prerequisites.
- Enrollment may be denied to a student with a hold due to conduct or Satisfactory Academic Progress or Financial Hold at any institution.
- A registration window for visiting students will provide them with a reasonable opportunity to register for courses.
- É«ÖÐÉ« may limit enrollment in historically high demand courses or courses restricted to majors.
Subpart H. Senior Citizens:
- Minnesota resident senior citizens, 62 years of age and older, may enroll in credit courses on a space-available basis beginning on the second day of the term. Students must self-identify and provide proof of age at the Registration Office.
- Senior citizens enrolled in credit courses are not charged for tuition, but are charged a reduced administrative fee per credit in addition to regular and special fees, including but not limited to per-credit Technology and MSCSA fees, textbook and material fees. Other fees, such as parking fees or late fees may be assessed, if applicable.
- Closed enrollment contract training courses designed and offered specifically and exclusively for senior citizens, or professional continuing education courses, are not eligible for a free or reduced rate.
- The senior citizen rate is not available to degree-seeking students.
