Gain the skills you need to enter the Basic Life Support Ambulance occupation arena as an EMT

É«ÖÐÉ« offers an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Hybrid course to provide students with the necessary didactic and cognitive skills to enter the Basic Life Support Ambulance occupation arena as an EMT.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) written and practical examination, administered by the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board. The course follows the guidelines established by the United States Department of Transportation and meets the requirements set forth by the Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board. This course is a requirement to progress into the Intensive Care Paramedic Program of study. (Prerequisite: Student must be 18 years of age by the start of the course.)

The EMT Hybrid course consists of 160 hours of training offered in a hybrid format, combining online learning with some in-person skills training to fully prepare for the NREMT psychomotor exam. The cost of the course includes online access, e-book, readiness exam, in-person training, and NREMT psychomotor exam.

Please Note: This is NOT a program leading to a degree at É«ÖÐÉ«, and these certifications are not eligible for federal student aid. Rather, SCC offers a series of courses that lead to certifications which prepare learners to render emergency medical services to the public.

Basic Entrance Requirements

Students must be 18 years of age prior to the start of the initial Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. There is not an age requirement for the First Responder course.

Student Background Studies

Minnesota law requires that any person who provides services that involve direct contact with patients and residents at a health care or child care facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health have a background study conducted by the state. An individual who is disqualified from having direct patient contact as a result of the background study, and whose disqualification is not set aside by the Commissioner of Health, will not be permitted to participate in a clinical placement in a Minnesota licensed health care or child care facility. Failure to participate in a clinical placement required by the program could result in ineligibility to qualify for completion of the course.
