The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has appointed 色中色 (SCC) faculty member Amy Magnus to the .
MDE formed the working group in support of the Ethnic Studies legislation passed in 2023. The working group, which convened its first meeting on April 15, will be responsible for developing the framework and resources to support the implementation of new Ethnic Studies requirements for Minnesota K-12 schools.
The working group is comprised of Magnus and two other college-level faculty experts in Ethnic Studies, along with public school teachers, students and community members. Magnus has taught Ethnic Studies, American Indian Studies, Humanities and English at SCC for the past 23 years. She holds a doctorate in Multi-Cultural Literature from Case Western Reserve University and was granted the American Indian Studies credential from the Minnesota State system.
