Signalperson pointing toward the sky as a crane lifts a load rigged with chains

Become a qualified signalperson or rigger with training from Customized Workforce Education.

Qualified Signalperson Training

A Signalperson is required, according to OSHA regulations, in the following situations:

  • The point of operation is not in full view of the operator.
  • The operator鈥檚 view is obstructed in the direction the equipment is traveling.
  • Either the operator or the person handling the load determines that a signal person is needed because of site-specific safety concerns.

Our training meets OSHA qualification standards for Signalperson and includes training and testing, resulting in the documentation required by OSHA for employers to qualify their personnel.

What you will learn:

  • Gain the ability to list and demonstrate the four types of signals.
  • Understand the corresponding Subpart CC signaling requirements within the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Apply terms defined by 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC.
  • Gain a basic understanding of crane operations and limitations, crane dynamics, and boom deflection.
  • Recognize power line hazards while working with or around cranes.
  • Apply OSHA鈥檚 minimum clearance distances for cranes while working around power lines.

Training sessions can be delivered at your location or at either of our two campuses. Inquire about our on-site audits.

Qualified Rigging Training

According to OSHA regulations, a Qualified Rigger must be used for hoisting activity for assembly and disassembly work. Also, they must be used anytime workers are within the fall zone and hooking, unhooking, guiding a load or completing the initial connection of a load to a component or structure.

A person need not be qualified to handle every type of job. Instead, they must, according to OSHA, 鈥渉ave the ability to properly rig the load for a particular job.鈥 Because each job is different, the qualified rigger need only be qualified for the job on which he or she is working; and that is where our training comes in. Our rigging training can be customized for any industry.

What you will learn:

  • Gain the ability to select appropriate rigging and hardware for the task at hand.
  • Know and understand the removal criteria for rigging and hardware.
  • Perform proper inspection of rigging and hardware.
  • Understand appropriate rigging terminology and nomenclature.
  • Understand the effect of angles on rigging and hardware.
  • Calculate sling stress on two, three and four-legged bridle hitches.
  • Gain an understanding of working load limits.
  • Learn best practices when rigging and using hardware.

Training sessions can be delivered at your location or either of our two campuses. Inquire about our on-site audits.
